Industries at the Birgunj-Pathlaiya corridor that plays an important role in Nepal's industrial output, resumed operations on Monday after days of uncertainties and closure triggered by the labour strikes.
The industries were shut down and production had come to a complete halt since August 4.
"An understanding has been reached between industries and labour organizations. The labour court has further declared strikes illegal. These two factors have helped us reopen the industries entirely," said Ashok
Baidya, chairman of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
Most of the industries resumed operations from second week of August. With Tribeni A Group and Hulas Steel, too, restarting operations today, all industries in the corridor are now functional, according to Baidya.
Labour strike had severely paralysed the corridor located in the central Terai plains of Bara and Parsa districts, as it led to the closure of more than 24 big industries of Nepal
