UCPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Tuesday that the much-hyped murder case of Krishna Adhikari during armed insurgency (1996-2006) is a matter to be decided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), which is in the process of formation.
Issuing a statement on behalf of his party, Dahal said ill-efforts are being made by some section of civil society to malign his party on the basis of the murder case.
“Adhikari’s case has been brought to the light in a dramatic turn of event. All conflict-era cases will be decided by the TRC,” said Dahal adding that an ordinance related to the formation of TRC is under the consideration of Supreme Court.
Despite this fact, the National Human Rights Commission has recommended to the interim government to take ahead the case, he said. “The government, too, is showing keen interest to proceed with this matter. We seriously object and protest these two developments.”
Adhikari was killed by the Maoists following his abduction from Chitwan in June 2004. His parents have been carrying out sit-in protest for months demanding justice.
His father Nanda Prasad and mother Ganga Maya are undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital, Kathmandu, for the past two weeks after their health deteriorated as the result of their indefinite hunger strike. nepalnews.com
