In what appears as a step ahead towards maintaining law and order during a bandh (general strike) or chakka jam (transport strike), the District Administration Office in Saptari has fined four individuals for staging chakka jam in the district.
It is the first instance in Nepal that individuals have been punished and fined for staging either a bandh or a chakka jam, reports RSS, the state news agency on Monday.
The District Administration Office fined Namud Miya (62), Jakir Miya (45),Yunus Miya (36) and Mohammad Mustafa (28) of Jandol VDC-5, as they disrupted traffic by putting hurdles on the road.
Chief District Officer, Harikrishna Poudel fined them Rs 1,000 each as per the Essential Services Act. In addition, the culprits may be jailed for six months depending upon the intensity of their crime.
